Chilly Night

The ivory mare nudged AJ's arm as she slipped the stable blanket over her head and down her back. Harley nickered softly, standing quietly while AJ did her buckles and finished prepping her up for the chilly November night. Giving her a pat, she exited the broodmares stall and smiled at her final horse needing bedded up.

The fiery chestnut across the aisle was munching happily on her hay as AJ pulled her blanket off the blanket bar and paused before entering her stall. Erste suddenly stopped chewing, her body frozen in the quiet alertness that horses can only do. She swished her silky tail and flicked an ear back before swinging her head around to stare, literally, stare at her belly. A wide smile tugged at AJ's lips - understanding now. The mare must be feeling the first, soft kicked of the foal growing inside her.  

AJ stepped inside the warm stall and rested her hand on the horse's shoulder - snapping her out of her trance. She swung her head around to greet her and quickly began to frisk her for treats, the odd sensation in her belly gone from her mind. AJ quickly obliged the mare with a sliver of an apple and threw the thick blanket on her. 

Finishing up, AJ offered up one more treat while stroking Erste's forehead, speaking soft, "You're going to be a mommy, baby. You're going to be a mama." She leaned down and placed a kiss on perfect tear-drop star, before closing up for the night.
